The proposal to provide South Yorkshire's up to 2.1 million square feet of industrial and logistics space is recommended for planner approval.
Newlands Developments, which first planned in late 2023, hopes to build this 211-acre scheme on the land from Goldthorpe's A635 south of Dearne Valley Parkway.
It estimates that 1,349 direct construction jobs can be supported per month during project development. Also, once the site is running, it can accommodate 3,282 full-time equivalent jobs.
The detailed planning statement accompanying the application stated, “The submission of this application is consistent with the government's purpose of building a strong and competitive economy.
“The proposed development will provide a high-quality scheme that provides the required employment floor space in well-connected and highly accessible locations in the context of both regional and national markets.
“This scheme brings environmental, social and economic benefits through job creation, net profits for biodiversity and the creation of developments using sustainable transport links.
“It creates important employment opportunities that provide high quality, skilled jobs in the logistics sector.
It will contribute to realignment of the local economy. ”
The proposal for the Newland development will be considered by the Barnsley Council's Planning and Regulation Board on February 28th.
Edward Piggott, Associate Planning Director for Newlands Development, added:
“Major commitments include sustainable transportation options such as electric vehicle charging and cycle parking, as well as C. £4 million investments to strengthen local bus services.
“Additionally C. 40 pounds will support Hickleton upgrades and promote bypass projects at c. £0.9 million allocated to improve bus stops and sidewalks.
