Rupert Bradley received a hand-finished silver egg cup and spoon in his Christmas stocking with the final markings made by the Birmingham Assay Office. The boy loved the gift so much that he begged his mother, Kaye Bradley, an independent York jeweler, to see if she could prepare one for Prince Louis.
“Rupert always loved Prince Louis,” Kay said. “He feels a connection because they were born within days of each other.”
Rupert, who has a bilateral lower limb disorder called talipes, explained why he loves Prince William's youngest son so much.
“He always seems a little cheeky and fun,” says the Bootham schoolboy.
“Louis is likely to become the next Duke of York, so it is important that he has a special connection to our magical city.”
Kay added that despite having a very tough start in life, Rupert always thinks of others.
“Unfortunately, my son has been in and out of the hospital for surgeries, but he has always been so brave and stoic. We are so proud of him.”
Kay, a huge fan of the royal family, was also the first through the door when the coronation commemorative badge was launched in March 2023.
Bradley's Jewelers in Low Petergate is currently celebrating the final commemorative mark being placed on a special silver piece marked for Prince Louis.
Roxanne Guest, deputy chief executive at Birmingham Valuations, said: “The Coronation Mark of Charles III, featuring the head of His Majesty against an oval background, will be unveiled in February 2023.
“It was available upon request to retail jewelers, suppliers and designer manufacturers from March 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024.
“This regulation was applied by all four UK assay offices to items of gold, silver, platinum or palladium.
“It is an honor to see the final markings put on this beautiful egg cup and spoon, which will be presented to the King’s grandson.”
