Kyle Christopher Atkinson, 39, of Northerlerton, who works in communications at RAF Leeming, was stopped by police on June 1st last year at Clack Lane, Osmotherly, a Harrogate magistrate heard.
Not only was he uninsured, but his Renault Kager did not have a valid MOT certificate. He faced a six-month minimum ban, the court heard, as he already had points on his driver's license.
The magistrate said that driving bans probably took him an hour to work for Atkinson, so his job was likely because public transport could not make him work on time. I've heard people claim that it costs money.
They were told that the sergeant was the director of the North Lerton Cricket Club, where he coached the youth team and the referee game. Therefore, he had to be able to go home and leave the match.
A ban on driving will also cause family problems for him.
The magistrate determined that if he was banned he would face “exceptional” difficulties and gave him six penalty points, but did not disqualify him.
Atkinson pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and driving the car without a valid MOT certificate. He was fined £611 and ordered to pay a statutory surcharge of £244 and a prosecutor's fee of £90.
