In an emotional message to customers, Rattle Owl owner Clary O'Callaghan said it was time to say goodbye to the restaurant she founded in 2013.
The Micklegate favorite was featured in the Michelin Guide last year and was visited by AA inspectors a month earlier, resulting in it being awarded two stars.

Currently, Clary says, “The last run of the Rattle Owl is this Saturday (August 5).
“We only have a few slots available on Friday night, a few slots for a small tasting menu from 6pm on Saturday, and after a few cancellations, we have Adam’s tasting menu slot for Saturday lunch. There are 2 tables available in this industry.If you would like one last chance, we will contact you to redeem any outstanding vouchers.
She added that Florencia Clifford and Hugo Hildyard, from nearby Partisan restaurant, have bought the freehold of the building from her and plan to open their own “more casual venue” in the coming months. he said.
“I'm really looking forward to it because they know and love this wonderful building as much as I do,” Clary said.
“I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve at Rattle-Owl during my time at 104 Micklegate. I first got the keys in July 2013, and I was excited to see what we were able to do with the long-vacant building. You all know the battles and delays to convert it into a beautiful hotel on a street that had 14 vacant properties at the time.
“It may be because of my leap of faith then that Micklegate has evolved into a gourmet destination, just as it has been for many York residents over its 350-year history. It was also my home for several years.
“As a female business owner, running a restaurant has been a moment that will forever be etched in my memory. We are grateful to our new owners, our wonderful local suppliers who will continue to provide us with beautiful produce, and our customers who truly love this place and understand what we are trying to do. In the meantime.
“Like many of you who know my story, I am focused on my amazing charity, the Femicide Census, which has a huge impact on how femicide is treated in this country. I would like to guess and also enjoy the joy of raising teenagers.
“My staff has known all about the planned sale of the building for months and I appreciate their cooperation during this period.
