This is the first time the Walk for Children charity has hosted such an event, but since 2020 people across the UK have taken part in local walks every Christmas, raising over £460,000 for the NSPCC. are collecting.
Yorkshire is proud to host a pilot event at Roundhay Park on Sunday 8th December, welcoming hundreds of people to walk a fully accessible 5km or 3km route through the beautiful park. I'm thinking of doing it.
Although this is a simple fundraiser, we hope this is the first of many, allowing families and friends to come together for a fun and relaxing walk to support vital NSPCC services like Childline. I hope.
Last Christmas, Childline conducted around 5,500 counseling sessions with children. On average, a child contacts the service every 45 seconds, so it's important that counselors are available 24 hours a day, even at Christmas.
Everyone who takes part in the walk will receive an NSPCC t-shirt and children can take part for free. The day will feature fun events for the whole family. In addition to Santa, there will also be one or two special guests on site.
