Richard and Lindsay Johns, co-owners of The Plow Inn in Wombleton, have worked together in the industry for 20 years.
The couple began their hospitality journey in December 2004, opening their first business, 16 Artisan, in Hessle, near Hull. He ran the restaurant for 10 years and was featured in the Michelin Guide, the Good Food Guide and the Top 100 Restaurants list.
Their rollercoaster journey continued until they took over the reins at the Falcon Inn in Withernwick, where they won their first entry in the UK's leading food guide series.
So the couple decided to take the plunge and move to pastures new in Rakelf, where they opened Rasil's in the fall of 2016.
In late 2019, the couple took over the lease of the former Malt Shovel in Hovingham, renovated the site from top to bottom, and opened the doors of Hovingham Inn in early 2020.
With Richard behind the stove and Lindsay at the front of the shop, the couple achieved further accolades, including inclusion in the Michelin Guide and Estrella UK's Top Gastropubs list. Sadly, the couple was forced to close their business in 2022 due to the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic and a lack of human resources.
After some time and consideration, the couple decided to take over The Plow Inn in Wombleton and have already begun to enjoy success, continuing from where they left off.
Featured in Estrella UK's Top Gastropubs list for the second year in a row and featured in the Good Food Guide. The latter praises Richard's modern British cuisine.
The couple said: “Past 20 I can't believe how many years we have worked together in the hospitality industry. During this time, we have witnessed many changes, some good and some not so much. What we believe to be the best hospitality – the best available We work hard to provide high-quality, affordable food using top-quality ingredients, exceptional service, and most of all, a warm and welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels invited, including the four of us. Our long-legged friends especially enjoy their surroundings. Built in the 15th century, the Plow Inn features roaring fires and a quirky atmosphere.
“We're both the kind of people who do things the best way we know how, by communicating to ourselves the quality of what we're doing. That's why we both… We’re excited about what lies ahead as we realize our vision.’ We look forward to welcoming you to Plow Inn and making a further mark on Yorkshire’s dining scene in our own unique way. I am. ”
