Manchester-based Root Power has received planning permission for the Osgodby scheme, which will generate 40MW/80MWH of electricity.
The company says battery energy storage systems (BESS) are poised to play an essential role in the UK's energy transition and ability to reach net zero by 2050.
The UK government expects demand for grid energy storage to rise to 20GWH by 2035.

Neil Brooks, Managing Director of Root Power, said: Next few months.
“As energy networks move towards a zero-zero future, we plan to develop a strong pipeline of projects to establish Root Power as one of the largest owner-operators of energy storage systems in the UK.”
Root Power, which was launched in July with the backing of Salford-based YLEM Group, currently has more than 2GW of projects in its UK pipeline.
Currently, one flagship project is already under construction and four are fully agreed. Their construction is scheduled to begin in 2025.
