An industrial unit at Dunslow Court in Eastfield, Scarborough, is set to be transformed into a “fun and dog-friendly space, both indoors and outdoors” after Coastal Tales & Trails’ planning application was given the go-ahead .
More than a dozen letters of support were sent to the planning authority from residents who said: “This area desperately needs a safe place for working dog owners to leave their dogs during the day.”
One local resident said: “It's a great idea to have a place for dogs to run around and have fun while their families work,” while another said it was a “much-needed facility for a dog-loving town.” Ta.
Two local residents objected to the plans, raising concerns about “smells, noise and lack of parking”, while another said the proposed fence would be “too close to the emergency exit door”.
However, the council's property services department said it supported the plans, which were not opposed by Seamer Parish Council or the Highways Authority, as they would “make use of subdivisions and other unused vacant land”.
The nursery will initially house 20 dogs and employ one full-time and two part-time employees.
The applicant said it plans to eventually increase the kennel capacity to 40 locations and could employ up to six full-time employees.
Business hours will be from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with primary business hours from 9am to 3pm, with Saturday, Sunday and public holiday service eventually planned.
Applicant Suzanne Bishop said the business would operate “like a nursery for dogs”, with “dogs of all shapes and sizes getting exercise with their four-legged friends and dog-loving staff”. “You can spend the day socializing and socializing.” .
The “heated and ventilated indoor building” has an area of 110 square meters and the outdoor space has an area of 180 square meters, providing “grass areas for play and toilets, movable agility equipment, enrichment areas and relaxation areas”. . ”.
