Seagrown in Scarborough is part of the German multinational's 'Joint Use Competition', which seeks innovative solutions to enhance biodiversity and promote coexistence with other marine users in offshore wind farms. We are collaborating with RWE.
SeaGrown and Cosma, a French company specializing in underwater drone technology, were selected as winners from among 77 applicants from 17 countries.
SeaGrown's innovative solution, an innovative seaweed farming system, was chosen for its potential to revitalize marine habitats and contribute to a healthier marine environment.

SeaGrown was founded in 2018 and operates the UK's first commercial large-scale seaweed farm, operating a 10 hectare (25 acre) farm three miles off the coast of Scarborough.
The company says its unique marine aquaculture system is tried, tested and reliable and is already in use on the Yorkshire coast.
Not only do they increase biodiversity by providing important habitat for marine life, but they also contribute to carbon capture, improve water quality and enable harmonious coexistence with other sea users. I'll make it.
Additionally, the system's design minimizes navigational risks and allows North Sea native species to be grown year-round, even under difficult offshore conditions.
Professor Laura Robinson, Director of Marine Science at SeaGrown, said:
“This project allows us to combine our passion for ocean restoration with RWE's commitment to sustainable energy production.
“By working together, we can unlock the immense potential of seaweed, increase biodiversity, create rich marine ecosystems and support a healthier planet.”
Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind, said: “As one of the world leaders in offshore, we believe that sustainability and biodiversity enhancement are an integral part of the development, construction and operation of wind farms. ” he said.
“Out of a number of high-quality applications, Cosma and SeaGrown emerged as winners. Their innovative ideas and new technologies will positively impact marine life and provide opportunities for local marine stakeholders. You can.
“We strongly believe in working together to make a real difference to nature and our future energy supply.”
