Officials said the incident occurred at Selby's Marketplace Staxi Rank around midnight on Saturday, March 22nd and Sunday, March 23rd.
“The incident occurred while a local couple spent the night in Selby town and were waiting for a taxi in heavy rain,” a Force spokesman added.
They said: “When the taxi arrived, two men appeared and pushed them in front of them.
“Husband required hospital treatment where he was allegedly punched and unconsciously knocked. His wife was attacked and reportedly suffered from hand and arm injuries.”
The two suspects remained in taxis, police added.
“The injured man wore a white T-shirt and a stone Carhartt overshirt, blue jeans and a sweatshirt with an orange stripe.
“The injured woman wore a black knee-length dress with a dark blue denim jacket and a green handbag and knee-length boots.”
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and are trying to find relevant taxi companies for more details. There are currently no explanations for the two suspects.
