Jonathan Newby, 34, of Gypsy Road, Bridlington, was charged with rape, using an offensive weapon to commit intimidation, possessing a weapon with intent to commit a sexual offense and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. He denied a total of three charges.
Following a nine-day trial, a jury at Grimsby Crown Court on Thursday (28 November) found Newby guilty of all charges. He was remanded for sentencing in the same court on Monday, February 3.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 19, 2023, Newby, wearing a face covering and hoodie, hid in the shadows and followed the victim for about 30 minutes as he returned home from a night out.
