Police warned that the XL bully dog may be loosened in Sheffield after he escaped when an armed officer tried to shoot it.
The animals fled as police investigated reports of a gun being fired at a facility on Daniel Hill Street in Hillfoot around 22:00 PM on Thursday.
South Yorkshire police said: “An XL bully became aggressive upon entry to the property. Officers fired at the dog and fled the scene.”
Hours later, police found the gun fired after being called into a collision involving a motorbike and Stannington's car. The 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and the 39-year-old woman was arrested for possessing a firearm.
A 36-year-old man, a motorcycle rider, was also arrested on suspicion of car theft and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. All three remain in police custody.
Police said they believe the incident is linked. I didn't know if the dog was injured or not.
South Yorkshire Police Ch Supt Jamie Henderson said:
“We are grateful that the people in our community are on alert, and we ask that you contact us as soon as you see a dog.
“It encourages dogs to stay away from them. I believe they have the ability to show aggression and cause harm.”
During a search on a property believed to be related to the incident, police said they found a firearm and two dogs. Both dogs were seized and remained in the police kennel.
