I recently visited Kiplin Hall and saw the last snowdrop of the year. I had never been to before, but I had seen it on the website of the wonderful houses, castles and gardens in Yorkshire and knew I was celebrating this year's 400th anniversary, so I thought it was a great opportunity for the day.
When you first enter Kiplin Hall, read the exhibition board in the hallway. They tell you about four families who have lived there since 1625: Calvert, Crows, Carpenter and Talbot.
The house itself is home to some lovely volunteers who have great joy in talking about each room and the people who live in them, truly bringing their stories back to life.
At the top of the house is a perfectly set up room to entertain children with the corners of the storybook, playhouses and art stations.
The beautiful evidence was particularly appealing to me, even in early March. You can get a map of the grounds you will take on a walk to see the best views of Snowdrop.
There is a lovely little play area perfect for young children, where you can sit and watch while playing (or picnic in the warm month).
As part of the 400 year celebration, this year we opened a new cafe offering tea, coffee and afternoon tea. This was very popular on the day we visited and the tables were full. It's worth knowing that you don't have to pay to enter the home or property to visit the cafe. But it's a shame not to visit and explore the beautiful grounds!
I've included some photos from the menu so you can get an idea of what is available as well as the prices.
There is also a small gift shop at the entrance/exit (please make sure your kids get their own pocket money). If the dog is on the leash, the dog is welcome on the premises.
