This week we visited Saltmoore's newly renovated spa. If you don't notice, Saltmoore is the new name for the hotel, which was called Raithwaite Sandsend. We visited their family room in 2023 to review them. Read this review here.
The name has been changed as part of the brand and was chosen for the hotel's unique location between the North Sea and North York Moor. I was not sure at first (we don't like change!), but now I'm used to it, I really like it.
We were greeted warmly as soon as we entered the hotel. In fact, all the staff were warm and friendly. It was our first time at the spa, so we were given a short tour and showed us where all the facilities were.
We were also generously given a large and extremely fluffy robe and slippers of size. Now I have to specifically mention the changing facilities. Because these were slightly unusual and very impressive. The main locker area is gender neutral, but there is a private booth (I'll explain it in detail soon!). Each locker is activated by a personal selected pin number, so no keys, cards or wristbands are required.
The main thing I'm excited to tell you is the private change spaces and booths.
These are really small bathrooms with a shower, sink, mirror, seating to sit and a hidden toilet. Yes, you read it correctly! Below the seat is a hidden toilet! I think this is a very cool and clever use of spaces!
Back in the main area there are two mirror banks with various GHD hair fixtures. These included hair dryers, straighteners, curlers and hot brushes.
The spa itself is beautiful with a genuine classic luxury atmosphere.
Decorated with beautiful neutral tones, the spa includes a well-sized pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
There's also a brass monkey ice bath (it's not that I'm cocky, that's its name!!). My friend Sarah loved this and sat there a lot. I went in, sat, screamed, then went out again!

But if it's about you that it's about you, you really need to try the cryo experience. It looks like a simple shower cubicle, but the temperature inside is -75°! You will need to wear a safety device to experience this room, but there is only 3 minutes. When we talk about safety devices, we have wool hats that cover the ears, face masks that cover the nose, warm socks, thick slippers and gloves. Also, it should be completely dry, so plan this around your spa stay or treatment, dry again, or plan your treatment before entering the pool area. Ah, metal is not allowed because cold can burn you.

Honestly, I was a bit scared of using the room, but with the help of the staff members, loud music (I chose the tiger survivor's eyes) after 3 minutes, and I thought I loved him. It's an unusual experience and I've never seen it before, so if you're there, give it a try. There will be a fee, but please check your spaday offer to see if it can be included.
I would also like to mention the beautiful spa beds around the swimming pool. These were very spacious, doubled and comfortable for the two. Also good is that our spa beds were booked just for us and there was a sign indicating that our name was ours (here is the Sunbed War). there is no!).
After a spoiled morning at the spa, we headed to the Wellness Café. I was very impressed with the menu. You may find spa menus a bit more like “hair shirts.” Like many healthy options, there was even a considerable amount of food. This can be seen reflected in the menu here.
My guest chose the Cobb salad with Char Grilled Chicken Breast.
I went to the less value option of hot dogs and fries (excellent quality hot dogs – very tasty!).
If you want to be even more generous, I believe the cafe on the second floor sells afternoon tea!
The last thing I want to tell you is the most amazing facial I have experienced. My therapist was pretty young, but absolutely lovely, and her name was Leia (like Princess Leia from Star Wars that she informed me)! She made me feel very comfortable and felt that I would be cared for. The facial itself was great and was one of the best I've had for a very long time (and I'm trying a lot of facials!). The incredibly smelling product used is from Wildsmith.
We were then shown in the relaxation room and left a pot of herbal tea.
Overall, a great spa day in a beautiful location. It's not the cheapest spa there, but it's certainly one of the most special and definitely something to add to your list. It would be even better if you plan to stay too! I'll leave you a picture of the gym (I didn't use it!).
We were invited to visit and review the spa at Saltmoore. As always, all opinions are my own.
