As part of Commercial Development Projects Inc.'s plans, the derelict site of the former Magnet Kitchen showroom on Seamer Road will be partially demolished and replaced with a Starbucks drive-thru and two commercial units. May be replaced.
The site, which has been vacant since 2020, has a BP garage and car valet service on the north side, and a car dealership on the south side.
According to plans submitted, the existing kitchen showroom will be partially demolished and the northern section will be converted into two food takeaway units.
The rest of the site, previously used as a showroom, will be home to a Starbucks with electric car charging spaces.
The drive-thru coffee shop will have 23 standard parking spaces, two motorcycle parking spaces, and two standard handicap parking spaces.
A four-bay EV charging hub is proposed to be installed to the south-east of the site, two of which are of mobility-impaired standard.
In addition, two other units are supported by 13 standard parking bays and one handicapped parking bay.
According to the plans, pedestrian walkways and accessible parking will be introduced to ease movement around the site.
The applicant states that “the proposed development represents sustainable economic development and ensures sustainable economic growth through job creation, investment in the region, and increased consumer choice and competition; should be given preferential treatment.”
North Yorkshire Council has not set a date for deciding on the application and is currently accepting representations from members of the public.
