Contractor William Burch and his sons, appointed to carry out the major renovations, arrived on the scene last week for a £4 million project at Ghoul's historic market hall.
The scheme is one of eight strategic projects funded through the Goole Town Deal program.
Over the next few months, William Birch & Sons will make the venue more energy efficient by replacing the roof and glazing.

Contractors will also perform structural repairs and install heating improvements. A new, starting sound system. New flooring; new fire alarms; new electricity; and new toilet equipment.
This is followed by a second phase of work, equipped with food, drinks and the interior of the market hall, which is prepared to become the venue for the event.
The market yard behind the building will also be converted as part of the project. The venue is expected to open for business before Christmas 2025.
The Goole Town Contract Committee has invested £4 million in government funds in the market hall, which views it as a key “anchor” destination that will significantly increase foothold and spending in town centres.

Last summer, the board announced that following the formal bidding process, Brew York, a brewery taproom and bar at venues in York, Leeds, Otrey, Pocklington, Gazelly and Naresboro, had submitted a successful bid to bring the hugely popular combination of craft beer and street food to the Ghoul.
In addition to Brew York's food and drink offerings, the renovated market hall offers flexible space for local creative and craft businesses and hosts events of both commercial and community nature to generate income.
Phil Jones, chairman of the Gooletown Deal Board, said: “We are delighted that work is ongoing at the Market Hall.
“We have chosen to allocate funds to this exciting project to protect the future of one of Ghoul’s most historic and most famous landmarks, as it could benefit businesses in other town centres and boost the local economy by bringing more people to Ghoul.
“We believe that the new exterior market hall will be at the heart of what is considered a cultural district of Goole.
Planning permission for the renovation project was granted in 2024, with on-site work expected to be completed later this year.
