The Songs of Stuart Adamson will be playing Lord Collingwood in Upper Poppleton this weekend, January 18th from around 8pm.
The band, made up of Icicle Works' Chris Rayet, ex-Big Country's Mark Brzezicki and Simon Hough, and Steeleye Span's Ken Nichol, was formed last year and are all former members of famous 70s and 80s bands. I have experience working with.
Their name comes from Scottish rock guitarist and singer Stuart Adamson, who died in 2001 at the age of 43, and began his career as a founding member and performer of the punk rock band Skids in the late 1970s. After leaving Skids in 1981, he formed Big Country, serving as the band's lead singer and guitarist.
Former York civil servant Andy Heaton, who helped organize the event, said: “This event was made possible thanks to my acquaintance with lead singer Simon.
“In September, after attending Lord Collingwood’s monthly open mic night and having a few beers, I messaged Simon and said he was interested in playing an intimate gig in York. I asked if he was interested.
“When I woke up the next morning, the response was, 'Let's make it happen!'
“For weeks afterward, I hoped I could forget about it, but when I saw the band in November, as I was about to leave and take pictures with them, Simon yelled, 'Andy! Don't forget the live show in York!
“That’s how I became a one-show promoter.
“Lord Collingwood will be hosted by Bev and Mike Comerford. Mike is a huge Big Country fan and Bev is a fan who has suffered for many years because of it!”
All tickets are currently sold out. The band will perform at Lord Collingwood on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
