Inspired by the iconic British Railway posters, the impressive artwork was created for the Northern Station in Yorkshire. Eleven art students at East Riding College designed posters to brighten up Beverly Station, celebrate the town, and promote destinations like Sheffield. The poster is being announced today as part of the Railway 200th anniversary, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Modern Railway.

Students from Rotherham College, New College Pontefract and Keighley College also created eye-catching posters on display at local stations. They were tasked with rethinking classic British railway ads from the 1930s and 1940s to encourage travel across Yorkshire.
The artwork was presented after students were brought on the journey through the Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership and gained inspiration and increased their confidence in train travel.
“We've been working hard to get the better of our customers,” said Kelly Peters, Northern Regional Director. “We were seriously impressed by the quality of the artwork produced as part of the Railway 200 celebration. These talented students and their families can feel genuine pride when they see posters on display at their local stations.”
Northern funded the project, took 21 students to the House of Congress, met with lawmakers and discussed their work on improving the local department. Students at East Riding College were offered a free trip to London from Hull Train.
Claire Hay, dean of East Riding College, said: “We love to give students the real world experience that leads to the best possible opportunities. This brief gave us the opportunity to study the Railways and Sheffield as tourist destinations, expanding the project into the history of graphic design.”
She added: “The posters are great ads for both the railway and the creativity that our students are developing. I hope they are all well-made on a massive scale to deliver exceptional work.”
“We're committed to working with people and stakeholder engagement at Hull Trains,” said Paul Jackson, head of customer and stakeholder engagement. “On Hull Train, it's important to be part of the community. engaging with students like East Riding College shows just how important the rail connection is to opportunities, growth and future careers.”
Northern operates 2,500 services per day from over 500 stations in northern England.
