Tadcaster Albion chairman Andy Charlesworth has revealed the benefit the club has received from the Premier League Stadium Fund, which has helped keep the Brewers afloat during recent difficult times.
Due to the River Wharf's close proximity to the Young Guns Arena, Tadcaster is prone to flooding in its location, with the pitch completely submerged six times during storms last year.
The Premier League Stadium Fund (previously known as the Football Stadium Improvement Fund) works to provide financial support to football clubs across the Pyramid, with Tadcaster the most recent beneficiary. .
Charlesworth said that with the club's help, the club has now installed drainage pipes across the pitch, including corner catch basins to allow water to drain away naturally, and has also received financial support for repairs to the clubhouse. It was revealed that there was. Damage due to flooding will occur.
“Our club is at the heart of Tadcaster both geographically and in terms of community,” Charlesworth told the Premier League website. “We have a 130-year history and over 300 players across 20 junior teams.
“We have fans from all over Yorkshire and a supporter group based in Norway also meets twice a year.
“Tadcaster’s low-lying and riverside location makes the whole town vulnerable to flooding, which poses challenges.
“We suffer from flooding every season and last year our pitch was submerged six times after storms, so we hope the proposed Tadcaster flood mitigation scheme will help in the long term.
“With the support of the Premier League, we have been able to invest in a variety of technologies over the years and collaborate with specialist sports turf companies.
“There is a drainage ditch that runs across the pitch. When you go to the ground you can see that the pitch is not completely level. At the lowest point in the corner there is a big big sump (basin) where the water naturally drains. water can be pumped out.
“Without the support of the Premier League Stadium Fund our club would not exist.
“Even when the water levels were high and the floodgates broke and the clubhouse was damaged, we were able to use the grant to repair materials and replace things that our insurance wouldn't cover. Ta.”
Albion's grants manager James Hamilton also spoke about the Premier League Stadium Fund's support. The funds improved the club's floodlights, saving the club more than 40 percent on energy costs.
Hamilton added: “With support from the Premier League, we installed LED floodlights in April.
“First of all, they are reliable, bright and don’t take long to warm up.
“We made a huge improvement over an old floodlight that needed replacing.
“This is great as we are a community club with limited resources and have had to focus on ensuring the pitch is playable.
“We predict that LED floodlights will save you more than 40 percent on your total energy bill. Anything you can do to reduce your carbon footprint is a very good thing.”
