Anthony Potts became a drink after his bereavement, which led to the collapse of his marriage, but continued to contact his wife through her “uncomfortable” communication, and she felt suffered and scared.
He also threatened to kill her and a male friend and hurt herself, what was described as an “emotional horror” on Bradford Crown Court.
Potts, 49, of Corporation Street in Eccleshill, Bradford, appeared via HMP Leeds video links and later pleaded guilty to fearing violence against two counts of people violating stalkers and non-escaping orders.
Prosecutor Philip Adams said Potts, a former Willow Tree Pub in Riddleden, had started drinking lots and had experienced a “mental health crisis.”
As a result, he sent hundreds of messages and made calls – many of them abusive and permanently stalked her.
The court heard that Potts ignored bail conditions that prevented contact with his estranged wife and non-remarkable orders.
The relaxed Dominique Ullard said that while Potts' life was out of control, he spent time in detention that he had time to reflect on his actions and focus on the future.
Recorder's KC, Abdul Iqbal, sentenced Potts to 40 weeks in prison, saying he would be released soon, given the time he had already spent in prison.
He imposed a five-year restraining order banning contact with the victim
