Based in Alne near Easingwold, York Handmade offers 17,000 specially manufactured bricks to the Yorkminster Center of Excellence, a world-class campus facility for research, education and training in traditional craft skills.
This important contract was worth £15,000 with York Handmade, one of the nation's leading independent brickworks.
The £8.5 million centre based in the Yorkminster area will continue to craft masonry and bring perks such as promoting global learning and knowledge sharing. It also preserves ancient craft skills for future generations, as well as a glorious example of best practices in managing complex heritage.
“We are pleased to announce that we are a great place to go,” said Gey Armitage, Managing Director of York Handmade. It is such an advanced facility that protects York City's skills and protects Yorkminster's heritage for the future. ”

“The creation of a Centre of Excellence will not only allow for the preservation and development of the ancient craft skills that have supported the Minister for centuries, but will also ensure a sustainable future for it, our visitors, our communities we serve.
“York handmade bricks were used to construct auxiliary buildings that house the plant rooms, gardeners' shops and leff systems. We used bricks many times in projects throughout the Minster area.
“By using York's handmade in this project, we have secured support from our own Fabric Advisory Committee and York's conservators in ejecting conditions around the material. We are delighted with the results.”

Armitage said: “We have recently invested £1.5 million in brand new machines. Over the years, we have led to this overhaul and update of the manufacturing process that speeded up production, promoting two brand new products and increased efficiency, and implementing significant technical improvements.
“This investment will allow us to produce high quality UK-made bricks for years to come, reflecting our commitment to brick-making industry and an incredible building projects using bricks.”
