This Week's T&a Trader: Neal's Important Cut At Shipley

This month, his business, Neil's Key Cutting and Shoe Repair Center, marks its 25th anniversary.

Here, Neil will give you more info on this week's Telegraph & Argus Trader.

I used to work for a key cutting company, but then I set it up myself. I will live in Shipley for the rest of my life.

We offer keycut services. There is a new multi-code key machine for 10,000 pounds. Due to its multifunctionality, this multi-code key machine can cut cylinder keys, high security dimple keys, vehicle keys accurately and simply into codes, overlapping and engraving. . The new key simply copies the code rather than the physical key itself, and only needs code that is useful in the event of lost or stolen, so you can enter the code and copy the key as a new one.

Someone is coming because they have lost their keys and don't know if the machine will be cut into code. As far as I know, no one has anything like this in West Yorkshire. This is the best I've ever bought and has turned my business around. Otherwise, I realized that I would have to be left behind and evolve with the times when my customers went elsewhere.

We have this machine and provide this service to allow people to cut keys with guarantee and quality, adjust watches and straps, shoelaces and belts, engraving services, handbag repairs, sewing, and more. There is dry cleaning. With over 80 stocks, we will also change the battery of the car's FOB.

*Do you consider your business as a part of your local community?

Well, I was a Shipley boy and grew up here. I've been working at Shipley for 42 years now, so I know most of my clients.

It's especially great for older customers to know that they come to someone they trust, big or small, who do all their jobs. Whether it's a £2 or £3 stitch job, or an affordable repair sculpture or key cutting, we know that it's always a difficult time for everyone, so we always do I'll do what I can.

We are lucky as many other former traders. For example, a retired shoe repairer who can't afford to live off another trade, sends his clients my way.

We had to diversify and sell suitcases and bags to holiday makers who can't drive to retailers, or holiday makers who can't keep rugs for people who want to look good at home. .

My shop is small, but when you come here it's like Aladdin's Cave. Many times people come in for one thing, but leave more than two.

*What is your long-term plan?

It's great to train new staff with new key machines and get them interested in this job.

Honestly, if you know that you can safely return to your car or home, even without the physical key itself, you often cut a new pair of keys to code, so that's what you'll need to do to the customer. It can make a difference.

*Neil's Key Cutting and Shoes Repair Center, 21A Wellcroft, Shipley. Open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm, and Saturday from 8:30am to 4pm. Phone (01274) 595050. Visit Facebook or email n.conroy@live.com
