After going on vacation with my toddler for the first time this year, I could write a book, let alone a blog, about it. But I thought I'd cut right to the chase with my top tips. Months make a big difference in a toddler's world, so for reference, our daughter was 20 months old during the holidays.
flight time
It's a good idea to factor in your flight time when booking, especially if you have a set nap schedule or routine like we do. We managed to catch a flight just before lunch on the way there, and we were able to get back in time for lunch, so my daughter slept the whole way there. This was a complete fluke and I will be forever grateful.
I had to wake up at 5am for my outbound flight, so I tried to get my daughter to sleep in the car in her pajamas, hoping she might fall asleep, but that wasn't the case. plane!
airplane seats
Children under 2 years old don't need a seat, but once your baby can walk and is older than “baby”, having them sit on your lap for hours on end can be a nightmare, depending on the length of the flight. is. We recommend reserving your seat. If only there was a peaceful time worth the price! We booked seats in the last row of the plane and intentionally spaced ourselves out in the hopes that no one would want to choose a seat in the middle back for themselves, and we ended up getting seats on both flights, but again. But it was a fluke. know!
time difference
When heading to Menorca, there was only an hour time difference, so we continued with the same routine, but an hour later than usual, so it wasn't too strict and worked really well with our vacation plans. However, if there is a time difference of more than 2 hours, this must be taken into consideration.
Plane Activities – Even if I wasn’t lucky enough to be able to take a sleeping toddler on a plane, here’s what I had in my bag.
Sticker Book Window Stickers Crayola Color Wonder Coloring Pack (pens that can only be used on the paper in the pack – totally no-mess!) Snacks and much more. Toy cars Toy animals Kindle or iPad and headphones Blow up an airplane footrest or seat extender (like a hammock). We didn't have either, but both were recommended. Change your toddler's seat to a more comfortable place to lie down or nap.
Useful trivia – carry and consider depending on your destination.
Car window sunshade. Small Buggy – It's all about ease of use. Mosquito stickers – This was really helpful. Everyone but my daughter was getting stung, so everyone ended up wearing this. worth the money. Mosquito Repellent Spray Liquid Talc for Beach Sand – Tips to get rid of sand and prevent sores on sensitive skin! Bed/Cot Setup – Bring your bed sheets, pillows, and teddy bear from home and make your new sleep environment as similar in smell and appearance as possible to ensure a good night's sleep. (cross fingers) The type of pajamas differs depending on whether there is an air conditioner or not. Apply sunscreen using a makeup brush. This is much more effective, especially on the face, and should reduce the number of tantrums and “no, no”s when applying cream to your baby every two hours. The local beach we visited during our vacation was located within an alcove. This meant that the water was quite shallow for quite some distance and my daughter was able to get in and out without getting too deep. This is something to consider when looking at different beaches.
We hope you found these tips helpful.
