Osbaldwick, the “topping out” of Murton Way's new JH Shouksmith and Sons Ltd office, took place yesterday (February 19) with most stakeholders taking place to commemorate the event on the scene.
The term refers to the installation of the final piece of a structure, or the completion of the roof of a building, meaning that the maximum height has been reached.
Founded in 1820, mechanical and electrical design and installation companies replace existing offices, warehouses and storages that were more than 50 years old.
David Shouksmith is the seventh generation of his family.
As reported by the press at the time, the York City Council's Planning Committee approved the scheme after a February 2023 meeting, following the withdrawal of previous plans.

The film, led by Main Contractor Artium Construction Limited, will begin in June 2024 and be completed in August.
Once the project is completed, it will offer 12,000 square feet of industrial space and 14,500 square feet of office blocks.
“We are pleased to announce that we are a great opportunity to develop our property,” said Joanne Durkin, Head of Property Development at JH Shouksmith.
“The development will provide a new foundation for the mechanical and electrical business, as well as additional rental offices and industrial space.”
“We've been working hard to get the most out of our lives,” said Martin Watson, Managing Director of Artium Limited.
“We can really see the buildings in shape now.
“Closing the façade is an important milestone for Artium and will support the next phase of meeting the end of summer completion.”
