Alan Flinders was arrested in October following a collision between a truck and a Kia Soul in Waterend, York.
The driver of the car and his male and female passengers were injured in the crash and taken to York Hospital.
Flinders, of Westview Road, Ilkley, is suspected of driving the truck dangerously at the time of the crash, causing serious injury to the driver and passenger.
He entered no plea to either count when the charges were laid at York Magistrates' Court.
Magistrates decided the case was too serious to deal with and sent the case to York Crown Court for trial by judge and jury.
Flinders is scheduled to appear in the High Court on February 17 for a plea and trial preparation hearing. Until then, he had been released on unconditional bail.
He spoke briefly during the hearing to confirm his name, date of birth and address, and said he could understand the proceedings.
Water End, a key traffic bridge over the River Ouse in north York, was closed for several hours while police investigated after the accident at 11.45am on October 22nd. Significant delays occurred on the alternative route.
