West Yorkshire Police were called just before 4pm on Thursday to reports of a man being assaulted on the street in Undercliffe.
A short time later, police were alerted to a collision between a Mitsubishi Shogun and a black Audi RS6 at the intersection of Dudley Hill Road and Harrogate Road.
The Audi was severely damaged, with the left front section crumpled.

A force spokesperson said this morning that two men, aged 23 and 30, had been detained in connection with the investigation into the incident.
They said: “Two men, aged 23 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody.”
Yesterday, shopkeepers and residents in the area spoke of their shock and horror at what was happening.
Sophie Mortimer, owner of nearby Sophie's Food Shack, said: “We were closed when the incident happened and when we returned a short time later they had taken the car away in a recovery truck. I was very devastated.
“People would be scared of it. We were worried about the store.
“It's crazy. Things seem to go from one extreme to the other around here. Things don't happen often, but when they do, it's a big deal.”
