After weeks of rain and cold, snow is starting to fall in Yorkshire.
Snow is set to fall in Yorkshire just after the new year, according to WXCharts weather maps. The snow will form part of a large rain front, which could lead to wet weather in some areas. Snow will fall across North Yorkshire, but West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire will instead see rain.
WXCharts shows snow arriving in the area at 6 a.m. on January 2, meaning a snow star heading into the new year. Weather maps show the snow is expected to be quite heavy, with some areas, particularly the Richmond and Skipton areas of North Yorkshire, expected to receive between 2 and 3 inches of snow.

The snow is also expected to spread further south, with snow expected to fall in West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire as well. But it doesn't last long and it doesn't snow all day. There will be some snowfall over the next few days, but it will be fairly light.
But next week, on January 7th, further snow will fall as a front moves down from Scotland. By 6 p.m., we'll see another 2 to 3 inches of snow.
The snow will move rapidly south today, covering the whole of Yorkshire from Middlesbrough to Doncaster and potentially reaching Sheffield. Other cities affected include Leeds, Bradford, York and Hull.
