The mutual company is using space in a parking lot on Yorkshire Drive at Lurie Lane to install solar carports, which are ground-mounted canopies with slightly sloping roofs.
Due to its shape, a carport also serves as a shelter for parked cars.
The electricity generated from the carport will be used on-site as part of Yorkshire Building Council’s aim to achieve ‘net zero on-site’ by 2035.
A spokesperson said the new installation will complement the existing rooftop solar panels installed in 2014 and is expected to help save the society “more than £100,000 each year on electricity bills”. It is said that there is.
Alice Sweeting, Senior Manager of Environmental Sustainability at Yorkshire Building Council, said: “Carports not only provide convenient covered parking for colleagues, but also a space-efficient way to generate your own energy. “This will complement the renewable energy we are already procuring.” Through National Grid.
“This is one of a number of refurbishment activities we have undertaken, are underway or planned for our properties that support our drive towards net zero properties.”
This installation was supported by Energy Efficient Solutions Group.
