The majority of Yorkshire residents think a 'good local pub' is an important factor when choosing a new home, according to research.
60% of respondents in the area said having a good pub nearby was a top priority when looking for a home.
A survey of Yorkshire carried out for the 'Live Local' campaign found that pubs were ranked higher than other venues such as educational facilities, fitness centers and places of worship. Almost half of participants (45%) valued access to a local pub over proximity to schools (33%), gyms (15%) and places of worship (14%).
Pubs are also considered important for building strong communities, with almost three-quarters (74%) of those surveyed recognizing pubs as central to vibrant local life. I am. Additionally, 49% admitted to researching property prices in areas where they found a particularly good pub.
Visiting a pub is also a common way for prospective buyers and renters to assess the appeal of a neighborhood, with 44% using it as a strategy to get a feel for the area.
Emma McClurkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), which is leading the Long Live Local campaign, highlighted the vital role pubs play in local life. She said: “It's no surprise that good locals are high on many people's wish lists when looking for a home. They're also a sign of real social value in a community, and good pubs are good places with good beer. We offer more than just that.
“This is the place to meet new neighbors and friends, catch up on all the local news, and eat delicious pub food when you can't face the washing up.”
The BBPA is encouraging support for its 'Long Live the Local' campaign to protect pubs as an important cornerstone of local life.
